PURPOSE: To enable a super/subscript printing by a method wherein odd bits alone are compressed in the upper or lower half of 8n bits to print and then after the paper is fed by half a dot, even dots alone are compressed in the upper or lower half of 8n bits to print.

CONSTITUTION: Data in the odd order only are picked up from those of 8n bits by an odd bit extraction means 21 and then, shifted to the upper half of 8n bits (for super script) by an odd bit shift means 22. The results are printed by a printing means 23. Then, after the paper is fed by half a dot by a paper feed means 24, bits in the even order only are picked up by an even bit extraction means 25 from the original data of 8n bits and shifted to the upper half of 8n bits (for super script) by an even bit shift means 26. Then, the results are printed by the printing means 23.
