To provide a printing apparatus which can maintain a printing head in a normal state by using a disk shape medium provided with a cleaning region.
The printing apparatus is provided with a disk rotating unit 134 in which the disk shape medium 210 is installed attachably and detachably and which rotates the disk shape medium, a pickup 138 which writes and/or reads an information signal on the recording surface of the disk shape medium, a printing head 110 which conducts printing on the non-recording surface of the disk shape medium at the opposite side to the recording surface of the disk shape medium by discharging ink, a head moving unit 124 which moves the recording head to the non-recording surface of the disk shape medium, and a cleaning treating unit which conducts the cleaning treatment of the printing head by controlling the rotation of the printing head by controlling the rotation of the disk shape medium in which the cleaning region 242 slidably attached to the nozzle surface 112 of the printing head is provided on the non-recording surface, and controlling the movement of the printing head to the non-recording surface of the disk shape medium.
