To provide a printing apparatus which does not cause any change in the printing condition of the printed matter even before or after an ink refill and which does not require frequent ink refills or complicated devices.
The printing apparatus includes: a printing part 3 which transfers ink to a printing medium; a main tank 57b which stores fresh ink; a sub tank 57c whose bottom surface 107 is located lower than the bottom surface 109 of the main tank 57b to receive the fresh ink supply from the main tank 57b; an ink supply means 54 which supplies the ink stored in the sub tank 57c to the printing part 3; an ink recovery means 73 which recovers the excessive ink left over without being used for the transfer at the printing part 3 and returns it to the sub tank 57c.
