PURPOSE: To control a printing position by a dot unit and to set the same simply, by automatically controlling the printing position when printing is performed by a printer provided with a printing position memory apparatus storing the shift quantity of the printing position and a printing position control apparatus.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of printing, one of printing position memory devices 16a, 16b having preliminarily indicated printing position data stored therein is selected and the printing position data is sent out to a printing position control apparatus 17. Next, the reading accessing of a font memory 6 determining a character pattern is performed on the basis of the output data of a page buffer 4 and the read character pattern data is sent out to a printer 8 through a parallel/serial converter 7. When data is sent out to the printer 8, the shifting of the printing position of a printing character is automatically performed by the printing position control apparatus 17.
