PURPOSE: To ensure that operation is performed easily and without error and an error is detected rapidly by providing a device with information on the orientation of binding holes which indicates the orientation of binding boles on sheets loaded in a sheet feed hopper.

CONSTITUTION: For example, information such as printing orientation; portrait, binding orientation; binding at the left, binding hole orientation; orientation to the right and number of printed sections; one side, is provided to a device. Print data is automatically rotated at 90° for printing and the sheet is oriented to the right in a sheet stacker 12. In addition, in a case where a composite one side and perfect printing process is performed by designating the A4, por trait or binding at the left mode, a one-side printing sheet is stored in a sheet feed hopper 11a and a perfect printing sheet is stored in a sheet feed hopper 11b. If the binding holes on these both sheets are oriented to the right, the sheets are oriented to the right for one side printing, while sheets are oriented to the left for perfect in the sheet stacker 12. Thus the device interprets that the binding hole orientations are not correct for eight of the printing modes, and notifies an operator about this fact by an error indication.
