In the printing machine comprising conveying rollers 34, 37 for conveying an original 31 to a read means 1; a drive motor 36 for rotatively driving those conveying rollers; and a detection means 37 for detecting the original moving toward the read means 1, a drive motor 36 is driven by inputting an operation start signal. When a detection signal is not output from the detection means 37 within a specific time from start of driving those drive motors, the driving of the drive motor 36 is stopped.
