PURPOSE: To enhance photosensitivity and printing resistance by forming an electrophotographic sensitive layer composed of 2 layers of an electrostatic charge generating layer contg. a specified azo pigment and a charge transfer layer made of a charge transfer material and an alkali-soluble resin.
CONSTITUTION: The electrophotographic sensitive layer composed of 2 layers of the charge generating layer contg. the azo pigment represented by the formula, A being a coupler residue, and a charge transfer layer contg. a charge transfer material and the alkali-soluble resin is formed on the conductive substrate 1. As the fundamental structure, the charge generating layer 3 and the charge transfer layer 4 are laminated on the conductive substrate 1 to form the electrophotographic sensitive layer 2. As the coupler of the azo pigment, compds. having a phenolic hydroxyl group, such as phenols and naphthols, and aromatic amino compds. are used, thus permitting high sensitivity and high printing resistance to be obtained.
