To provide a system for printing out data from a portable information device such as a notebook personal computer using any kind of printer installed in an office visited on business or a public place.

A printer 1 is provided with a bidirectional short-range radio means 1 to make communication with the portable information device 3, and a printer driver for the printer 1. The portable information device 3 is provided with a bidirectional short-range radio means to make communication with the printer 1. For printing out data in the portable information device 3 by the printer 1, the printer 1 and the portable information device 3 are connected to each other by means of the bidirectional short-range radio means. The printer driver stored in the printer 1 is sent to the portable information device 3, and the portable information device 3 sends the data to be printed out using the printer driver to the printer 1. The portable information device 3 is thus capable of printing out data using the printer 1.
