To provide a process for preparing a hydrogen/carbon monoxide mixed gas which can provide a methanol preparation process with higher efficiency and lower cost than the conventional process by using natural gas and coal as starting materials and controlling the feed of these materials.
Two reaction sections, i.e., a coal gasification section for reacting coal with oxygen to gasify the coal, thereby giving hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and a reaction section for reacting natural gas with water vapor to give hydrogen and carbon monoxide, are formed within a reactor. Heat generated in the coal gasification section is utilized to allow the reaction of the natural gas with the water vapor, and the proportions of the coal and the natural gas introduced are regulated to regulate the proportions of hydrogen and carbon monoxide produced. In this case, oxygen fed into the reactor is consumed by the reaction of oxygen with the coal to prevent a reaction of the natural gas with oxygen. In the latter stage of an apparatus used in the production of the mixed gas, an apparatus for synthesizing methanol and an apparatus for generating electricity are installed in combination to provide a composite energy system.
