To provide a process for producing e.g. a condensation polymer by which the stagnation of the solution to be reacted can be reduced, the quality of the product can be improved, the circulation and flow in the reactor can be accelerated, and the surface refreshing performance can be improved and which comprises performing the polymerization in a reactor composed of a vertical cylindrical vessel or a vessel with an inverted conical bottom and two sets of rectangular frame structures and agitating elements provided in the vessel.
The body 1 of an agitation tank is a cylindrical vessel and is surrounded by a heating medium jacket. The agitating element is a single agitating element structural element formed by assembling a torque transmission shaft (rotary trunnion) 2 and agitating members 8a to 8d and 9a to 9c to form rectangular frames and connecting these frames with each other in such a manner that they form a slide angle θ between them. The trunnion 2 transmits rotation to the member 8a, whereupon the first rectangular frame rotates along the inside wall of the body 1 to effect mixing. The members 8a to 8d rotate horizontally in the tank, while the vertically installed members 9a to 9f scrape the whole inside wall of the tank to inhibit the solution from stagnating therein and form also the second rectangular frame contiguous to the first rectangular frame.
