PURPOSE:To shorten the identification time of the process by giving step-shaped identification signal at the input side of the process, changing the input quantity of the process, and stopping the identification signal when the output quantity of the process goes to be the prescribed changing quantity. CONSTITUTION:A step-shaped identification signal is given from a step-shaped identification signal generating device 13 to the input edge of a process 11, the input quantity of the process 11 is changed, and at the output edge, the change in accordance with the characteristic of the process appears. The changing quantity of the output is fetched by the generating device 13, compare with the prescribed changing quantity and when the identification signal is impressed into the input edge of the process 11 and T time passes, it is judged that the output changing quantity arrives at the prescribed value and then, the step of the identification signal is returned to the original step in the reverse direction and the generation of the identification signal is stopped. A process identification counting part 14 obtains the transfer function of the process 11 from the input quantity and the output quantity of the process 11 and introduces it to an optimum PID calculating part 15. The calculating part 15 multiplies the necessary constant, obtains the optimum PID parameter, sets this to a process adjusting part 12 and controls the process 11 by the output of the adjusting part 12.
