Abstract:
To provide a process for manufacture of unsaturated compounds by catalytic dehydrochlorination of chlorinated hydrocarbons, in particular a process for manufacture of vinylidene chloride.SOLUTION: There is provided a process for dehydrochlorination of a chlorinated hydrocarbon comprising at least one chlorine atom and at least one hydrogen atom on vicinal carbon atoms to yield the corresponding unsaturated hydrocarbon. The process comprises contacting the chlorinated hydrocarbon with a guanidinium salt or its guanidine precursor. The guanidine precursor is a compound represented by formula (I).
