Indane of formula (I) (where X is H or halogen; R1 and R2 are each 1-5C-alkyl or 3-7C-cycloalkyl, and one of R1 and R2 can be H; R3 is H or 1-5C-alkyl; Y is CH2OH, COOR4 or (CH2)n NR5R6; R4 is H or M 1/v; M is a metal and v is its valence; n is 1-5; R5 and R6 are each H 1-5C-alkyl, 3-7C-cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, or NR5R4 is an opt. substd. 5 to 7-membered N-contg. heterocyclic ring opt. contg. a second heteroatom) are used as antiinflammatory and analgesic agents esp. antirheumatic agents of LD50 (rat) 250 mg/kg (orally).
