To provide a process for producing a cycloolefin addition polymer that can achieve the production of a homogeneous cycloolefin addition polymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution, a controlled molecular weight and excellent balance between processability and mechanical strength at a high polymerization conversion rate and has excellent temperature controllability and excellent industrial productivity.
The process for producing a cycloolefin addition polymer comprises subjecting a monomer containing a cycloolefin compound to addition polymerization using a catalyst containing a nickel compound or a palladium compound in the presence of a molecular weight controlling agent and comprises a step of initiating the polymerization reaction using the monomer in an amount of not more than 80 wt.% based on the total amount of monomer and a step of supplying the remainder of the monomer to the reaction system during the polymerization reaction.
