To provide a process of producing metallic iron by agglomerating a mixture including an iron oxide-containing material and a carbonaceous reductant, heating the resulting agglomerates in a moving-hearth heating furnace, separating the product discharged from the furnace into metallic iron and slag, and recovering the metallic iron, in which the metallic iron is efficiently recovered from the discharged product.
A process of producing metallic iron includes the steps of: agglomerating a mixture including an iron oxide-containing material and a carbonaceous reductant; introducing the resulting agglomerates into a moving-hearth heating furnace, and melting the agglomerates by heating to form molten metallic iron, molten slag, and reduced agglomerates; cooling the resulting mixture; discharging the solids obtained by cooling from the moving-hearth heating furnace; crushing the discharged solids including metallic iron, slag, and a hearth covering material, discharged from the moving-hearth heating furnace, using a crusher; and recovering metallic iron through selection of the resulting crushed solids with a separator.
