To provide a process for producing thermoplastic hydrogenated olefinic resins with hardly causing gelling in carrying out the polymerization of a non- conjugated diene or the copolymerization of a non-conjugated diene and a monoolefin with a metallocene catalyst comprising a metallocene, an ionic boron compound and an alkylaluminum compound, and successively, continuously carrying out hydrogenation of the resulting polymer or copolymer with a Ziegler type hydrogenation catalyst.
The polymerization and the hydrogenation are carried out by the use of the catalysts within the range which satisfies the equation I: 1<[AL1]/[M1]<1,000 and the equation II: 0.5<([AL1]+[AL2])/(M2]<8 (wherein [M1] is a molar number of the metallocene to be used in the metallocene catalyst; [AL1] is a molar number of the alkylaluminum compound to be used in the metallocene catalyst; [M2] is a molar number of the transition metal compound added as the hydrogenation catalyst; and [AL2] is a molar number of the alkylaluminum compound added as the hydrogenation catalyst).
