PURPOSE: To shorten the time required to process a silver halide photographic element and to reduce the number of processing stages by desilvering a fixing soln. contg. a specified chelate compd. and further contg. a bleaching agent made of a complex consisting of a ferric ion and a tri- or tetradentate ligand.
CONSTITUTION: A fixing soln. contg. a chelate compd. represented by the formula and further contg. a bleaching agent made of a complex consisting of a ferric ion and a tri- or tetradentate ligand is desilvered. In the formula, X is N or C-OH, each of (n) and (m) is 0, 1 or 2, when X is N, (p) is 0 or 1 and (q) is 1 or 2, when X is C-OH, (p) is 0, 1 or 2 and (q) is 1 or 2, and M is a counter cation. The bleaching agent is brought into the fixing soln. by a photographic element from a soln. just before the fixing soln.
