PURPOSE: To readily produce proctase A having different properties from those of conventionally known aspartic protease by culturing a host transformed with a plasmid containing a gene to code proctase A.
CONSTITUTION: A vector containing a gene to code proctase A having acidic protease activity is constituted. Then a host transformed with the vector is cultured and proctase A having acidic protease activity is collected from the culture mixture. The produced proctase A having acidic protease activity is produced by Aspergillus niger var. macrosporus DBD-0406 and the above- mentioned gene is obtained from the strain. The strain is deposited as FERM P-2,737 (ATCC No.16,513). Since this enzyme is acidic protease of pepstatin insusceptibility, has protein hydrolyzing ability and hardly release an amino acid, the enzyme is considered to be endo type protease.
