To provide a profitable method for producing 1-amino-2-bromo-4- hydroxyanthraquinone, excellent in operability and washing efficiency, and not causing a problem related to the corrosion of a drying machine and a product-filling machine after the washing operation.
This method for producing 1-amino-2-bromo-4- hydroxyanthraquinone comprises dibrominating 1-aminoanthraquinone in concentrated sulfuric acid under heating, hydrolyzing the obtained 1-amino-2,4- dibromoanthraquinone in the presence of a boric acid in the sulfuric acid, in necessary, increased in the concentration without isolating the product, and subsequently neutralizing the deposited 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone. Therein, the neutralization treatment comprises treating the deposited product with sodium hydroxide in a state comprising a pH of 7-10, and subsequently treating the treated product with sodium carbonate in an amount of 0.005-0.3 pt.wt. based on the neutralization product: 1-amino-2-bromo-4- hydroxyanthraquinone.
