Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful as a raw material for polymers in good yield using simple equipment by reacting a 2-hydroxyethylimidazole derivative in the liquid phase in the presence of a specific dehydrating agent.
CONSTITUTION: A 2-hydroxyethylimidazole derivative is subjected to dehydrating reaction in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g. KOH) or an alcoholate (e.g. sodium methylate) at 180-300°C under 20-760Torr pressure under conditions of the liquid phase to afford the objective 1-vinylimidazole derivative. The dehydrating agent is used in amount of 1-30wt.%, based on the 2- hydroxyethylimidazole, in the form of an aqueous solution and charged to the reaction system.
