Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound conveniently at a high yield, which was difficult to be produced industrially by reducing a chlorinated fluorohydrocarbon with hydrogen in the presence of a reducing catalyst comprising a metal belong to the platinum metals as a first component and a specific metal as a second component.

CONSTITUTION: This 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane is obtained by reducing a chlorinated fluorohydrocarbon selected from the formula CF3CClXCClF2 (X is H or Cl) and CF3CCl=CF2 by hydrogen in the presence of a reducing catalyst comprising a metal selected from Ru, Rh, Pd and Pt as a first component and a metal selected from Ni, Co, La, Re, W, Ta, Nb, Ti, Zr, Mo, Cu, Ag and Au as a second component. It is preferable to use a reducing catalyst produced by loading the metals of the first and second components to an active charcoal carrier by an impregnating method. The ratio of the second component in the reducing catalyst is preferably 0.1-50wt.%. Further, Pd is preferable as the first component and Cu, Ag and/or Au, or Cu, Ag or Au with one kind of metals in the second component besides these are preferably used as the second component.
