Abstract:
PURPOSE: To perform high-yield production of 1,3-dioxolane of reduced water content by reaction of formaldehyde or a compound generating formaldehyde with ethylene glycol.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of formaldehyde or a compound generating formaldehyde with ethylene glycol is carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid, the reaction mixture is distilled off from the reaction area and brought into contact with ethylene glycol countercurrently in the refining column.
