PURPOSE: To simply obtain the title compound useful as an intermediate, etc., of coupler for silver halide color photography under mild conditions using 2- aryloxyacetonitriles or heterocyclic oxyacetonitriles.
CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by formula II obtained from a compound expressed by formula I (X1 is halogen) readily available and compound expressed by formula III (R2 is aryl group or hetero-cyclic group; M+ is alkali metal ion) in high yield is reacted with a compound expressed by formula IV (R1 is H, alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group; X2 is alkoxy, aryloxy, heterocyclic oxy, acyloxy or halogen) in the presence of a base, especially sodium hydride or potassium tert. butoxide at -20 to 100°C, preferably 0 to 50°C, especially 5 to 30°C to readily provide the aimed compound expressed by formula I useful as an intermediate of 7-aryloxy-1H-pyrazolotriazoles (coupler for color photography).
