Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provideamethod for selectively producing a 2-alkoxy-5-alkyl-1,4- benzoquinone in high yield from an inexpensive raw material.
CONSTITUTION: 4-alkylcatechol such as 4-methylcatechol is oxidized with oxygen in the presence of a copper catalyst such as cupric chloride in an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol at 60-80°C for 12-24hr.
