Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a 2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid compound in high yield in an industrially advantageous way a simple operation without the need of hydrogen feed, useful as an intermediate for e.g. medicines and agrochemicals, by spreading a Raney nickel alloy in the presence of a specific carboxylic acid compound.
CONSTITUTION: This compound of formula II is obtained by using, in the presence of (A) a 2-halo-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid compound of formula I (R is H or a lower alkyl; X is Cl, Br or I) (e.g. 2-chloro-2- fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid), (B) 0.1-1wt. time, based on the component A, of a Raney nickel alloy (e.g. containing 40-50wt.% of Ni) followed by spreading the component B. It is preferable that the spreading operation be conducted in the presence of a combination of a lower alkylenediamine with at least one kind of base selected from ammonia and organic bases (esp. ammonia, a lower alkylamine or lower amino alcohol).
