Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce oxydisuccinate without requiring solvent-extraction which is costly and ecologically undesirable.
CONSTITUTION: The salts of maleic acid and malic acid are allowed to react with each other in an alkaline reaction medium in the presence of a calcium ion catalyst, to recover the salt of unreacted maleic acid as soduim hydrogen maleate by lowering the pH of the reaction product to approx. 4-6. The precipitated sodium hydrogen maleate is converted by a hydration into the salt of malic acid, and recycled for the synthetic reaction, thereby producing specially extra amount of product.
