Abstract:

To industrially and readily obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for agrochemicals, etc., by reacting 1,3-dichloropropene with a thiocyanic acid salt in the presence of a specific organic solvent.

1,3-Dichloropropene is reacted with a thiocyanic acid salt in the presence of a water-soluble organic solvent having ≤150°C boiling point. The water-soluble organic solvent having ≤150°C boiling point includes e.g. acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol or acetone. An amount of the solvent used is preferably 0.5-10 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. thiocyanic acid salt. 1,3- Dichloropropene used as the raw material is mass-produced as a nematocide and inexpensively readily available. 3-Chloro-1-thiocyanate-2-propene obtained by this method is displaced in the presence of a metal salt and the resultant 3-chloro-1-isothiocyanate-1-propene is chlorinated. The compound can be converted to 2-chloro-5-chloromethyl-1,3-thiazole (e.g. an intermediate for insecticides) thereby.
