Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily obtain the subject compound in high yield by using 6- substituted 3-methylhexanol compound as a raw material, reacting the compound with triphenylphosphine, reacting the reaction product with ethyl methyl ketone in the presence of a base and subjecting the product to reduction, etc.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula V useful as an intermediate for 4,8-dimethyldecanal which is an aggregation pheromone of Tribolium castaneum can be easily produced from an easily available raw material in high yield either by reacting a compound of formula I-III (X is Cl, Br, I, tosyl or mesyl; Ph is phenyl) with triphenylphosphine, carrying out substitution reaction with ethyl methyl ketone in the presence of a base, reducing the obtained olefin and, when the raw material is the compound of formula III, deprotecting the product or by reacting a compound of formula IV (X is Cl, Br or I) with Cu, Zn and/or Mg, reacting the resultant reagent with a compound of formula I-III and, when the raw material is the compound of formula II or III, deprotecting the reaction product.
