Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively utilize 4'-dibromomethyl-2- cyanobiphenyl and 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl in a filtrate formed when producing 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl.
SOLUTION: This method for producing 4'-methyl-2-cyanobiphenyl comprises a catalytic hydrogen reduction of one or more kinds of 4'-dibromomethyl-2- cyanobiphenyl and 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl. The method for recovering the 4'-methyl-2-cyanobiphenyl comprises a step for brominating the 4'-methyl-2- cyanobiphenyl in a solvent, the step of crystallizing the resultant 4'- bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl, the step of filtering off the obtained 4'- bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl crystal, and the step of carrying out a catalytic hydrogen-reduction of one or more kinds of the 4'-dibromomethyl-2- cyanobiphenyl and the 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl contained in the obtained filtrate.
