PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a photosensitive material for electrophotography, etc., from an easily available raw material under an easily operable condition in high yield, by reacting 1,4-bis(acyloxydicyanomethyl) benzene with triphenyl phosphine in the presence of bromine.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound useful as an electronic material such as capacitor, piezoelectric material, etc., or photoconductive composite material is produced from an easily available raw material on an industrial scale advanta geously, either by (i) reacting a compound of formula I (R1WR4 are H, 1W10C alkyl, 1W10C alkoxy, halogen or CN) with an acid chloride of formula R5COCl (R5 is 1W3C alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl) in the presence of hydrogen cyanide or its salt under radiation of ultrasonic wave or by (ii) reacting the compound of formula I with the above acid chloride in the presence of a hydro gen cyanide salt and a phase-transfer catalyst such as crown ether and reacting the resultant compound of formula II in the presence of triphenyl phosphine and bromine.
