PRODUCTION OF ACID TREATED GRAPHITE AND PRODUCTION OF EXPANDED GRAPHITE

PURPOSE: To treat graphite particles by an acid in a short time by obviating the use of a large quantity of concentrated sulfuric acid in the production of acid treated graphite and preventing the cause of unevenness of expanding state, the remaining of an unexpanded part, the decrease of expansion rate and the deterioration of tensile strength of a sheet in heat-treating the acid treated graphite.
CONSTITUTION: The concentrated sulfuric acid ≥90% in concentration is added into the graphite particles to form a paste by stirring, the temp. of paste is cooled down to ≤10°C and a hydrogen peroxide water ≤10°C in temp. is added into the paste while stirring the paste to oxidize the graphite particles. The graphite particles are one or more kind of graphite particles selected from a group composed of a natural flake graphite, a thermal decomposed graphite and a kish graphite, the concn. of the hydroperoxide water is ≥10% to ≤30% and 10-40 pts.wt. hydrogen peroxide water is added to 100 pts.wt. graphite particles.
