Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce acrylamide in high activity and in high selectivity even in the presence of dissolved oxygen in a liquid phase part in catalytically hydrating acrylonitrile by using a Raney copper catalyst by introducing hydrogen diluted with an inert gas to a vapor phase of a reactor.
CONSTITUTION: In producing acrylamide by catalytically hydrating acrylonitrile in the presence of a Raney copper catalyst, ≤7vol.%,, preferably ≥0.5vol.% hydrogen diluted with an inert gas (preferably high-purity nitrogen) is fed to the vapor phase part of a reactor and hydration reaction is smoothly advanced without reducing the performance of the Raney copper catalyst even in the case that dissolved oxygen exists in the liquid phase part to give acrylamide in high activity and in high selectivity. The molecular ratio of the amount of hydrogen existing in the vapor phase to the amount of dissolved oxygen in the liquid phase part is 4-70, preferably 6-60.
