PRODUCTION OF ADDUCT OF HALOGENATED BISPHENOLS WITH ALKYLENE OXIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08217714
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject slightly discolored adduct in high yield by using a quaternary ammonium base and a small amount of water in subjecting a halogenated bisphenol to addition reaction with an alkylene oxide.

CONSTITUTION: In subjecting (A) a halogenated bisphenol to addition reaction with (B) a 2-4C alkylene oxide, the reaction is carried out in the presence of (C) (i) 10-50 pts.wt. organic inert solvent (preferably an aromatic hydrocarbon), (ii) 0.005-5 pts.wt. quaternary ammonium base [preferably a base of formula I (R3 to R6 are each independently a 1-8C alkyl, aryl, etc.)] as a catalyst and (iii) 0.5-3 pts.wt. water based on 100 pts.wt. of the components A and B to give an adduct of a halogenated bisphenol with an alkylene oxide of formula II (R1 and R2 are each independently H or CH3; X is Br or Cl; 1 and m are each an integer of 1-20).
