Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an economically excellent method for producing adipic acid by using cyclohexene oxide as a raw material.
CONSTITUTION: In producing adipic acid by oxidizing cyclohexene oxide, adipic acid is produced by two processes wherein, in the first process, cyclohexene oxide is previously hydrated in nitric acid to produce a solution of 1,2- dihydroxycyclohexane and successively the solution of 1,2-dihydroxycyclohexane is oxidized in an aqueous solution of nitric acid containing a dissolved vanadium salt or the vanadium salt and one or more of metals of group IB, group IIB, group IIIA, group IV, group VA, group VIB, group VIIB and group VIII.
