Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a method for producing aerogel which is improved in brittleness and good in handling properties by adding one kind selected from among a laminar compound, a water-soluble high polymer and fibrous colloid, in the case of hydrolysis and polycondensation of alkoxysilane.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed liquid is obtained by sufficiently mixing water and a catalyst with one kind A selected from among a laminar compound, fibrous colloid and a water-soluble high molecular compound. Then, alcohol and this mixed liquid are added to alkoxysilane and the mixture is gelatinized by hydrolyzing it and performing polycondensation reaction therefor. The loadings of A is regulated to 1-10 pts.wt. for 100 pts.wt. prepared sol. Wet gel is aged and thereafter substituted by a solvent small in surface tension. Aerogel is obtained by slowly performing this substitution or by freeze-drying, liquid carbonic acid-drying and supercritical drying. A laminar compound and/or a water-soluble high polymer and/or fibrous colloid 2 are present in a structural body formed of silica particles 1. Aerogel 3 has strength and is comparatively easily handled.
