PURPOSE: To obtain an air purifying material and deodorizing filter showing high performance of removing CH3SH by bringing metal iron or iron alloy into contact with a strong acid aq. soln., leaving the iron or iron alloy in an oxidative atmosphere and allowing the product to adsorb hydrogen sulfide.

CONSTITUTION: Metal iron or iron alloy is brought into contact with an aq. soln. of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc., having ≤pH2, and dried in an oxidative atmosphere such as air. Thereby, iron (II) oxide is efficiently produced on the surface of the iron, which increases the performance of removing H2S. The concn. of polybasic acid such as tannic acid, L-ascorbic acid, etc., is kept not too high. Then, hydrogen sulfide is made be to be adsorbed on the product. Thus, the obtd. air-purifying material and deodorizing filter show high rate of removing CH3CH and maintain the effect of removing performance of CH3SH.
