Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in high yield without causing side reactions by slowly adding sodium methoxide as a catalyst in the form of a solution during the reaction.
SOLUTION: The compound of the formula III is produced by reacting a (meth)acrylate of the formula I (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is a 1-.-4C alkyl) (e.g. methyl methacrylate) with a heterocyclic alcohol of the formula II (A and B are each a 2-5C straight or branched hydrocarbon group) [e.g. 1-(2-hydroxyethyl) imidazolidyl-2-one] in the presence of sodium methoxide as a catalyst. The sodium methoxide is slowly added to the system in the form of a solution during the synthesis. Preferably, 4-20wt.% of sodium methoxide is added at the start of the synthesis and the remaining part is added during the synthetic reaction. The sodium methoxide is used as a 1-30wt.% solution prepared by using a solvent such as methanol. The reaction is preferably carried out at 70-85°C under a pressure below the atmospheric pressure.
