Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stereoselectively and directly produce a desired optically active isomer of the subject compd. useful as a medicine by using an optically active aryl alkyl ketone obtained by reacting an organometal compd. with acyl halide as a starting raw material.

CONSTITUTION: An optically active compd. represented by formula I (wherein Ar is aryl, R1 is alkyl or cycloalkyl and Z is an elimination group or a group convertible thereto) is used as a starting raw material and ketalized to form corresponding ketal to be subsequently transformed (i) or reduced to obtain corresponding alcohol which is, in turn, transformed to form aldehyde represented by formula II to oxidize the same (ii) or brought into contact with a ketalizing agent to form primary ketal represented by formula III to regenerate an elimination group at the α-position thereof to form secondary ketal which is, in turn transformed (iii) or heated to high temp. along with the ketalizing agent in the presence of an acid (iv) to obtain a compd. represented by formula V or its salt, ester, ortho-ester or amide.
