Abstract:
To produce an alumina fiber that has excellent spinnability and quality and is useful for catalyst carriers without solidifying at the time of concentration from a spinning concentrate which contains basic aluminum salts and organic polyacids by the process of spinning from the concentrate and then calcining the spun fibers.
This alumina fiber is obtained by spinning a spinning concentrate that contains preferably 50-70wt.% of basic aluminum salts, such as basic aluminum chloride, of the formula, [Al2(OH)nCl6-n]m (3≤(n)≤5; (m)≤10), and preferably 1-5wt.% of organic polyacids, such as oxalic acid, and calcining the spun fibers at temperature of 700-900°C.
