To provide a method for producing an aluminum silicon carbide composite material-covered steel wire capable of producing the wire without showing the deterioration, fragility, degeneration and disappearance of a composited silicon carbide fiber and not exposing the silicon carbide fiber on the surface of the wire in producing the aluminum silicon carbide composite material-covered steel wire in which the outside of the steel wire is covered with the aluminum silicon carbide composite material, and to obtain an overhead earth wire.
This aluminum silicon carbide composite material-covered steel wire is prepared by immersing a steel wire 3 into a molten aluminum or an aluminum alloy bath 2 and winding a silicon carbide fiber 1 (as a coil shape) before the coagulation of the attached aluminum or the aluminum alloy on pulling the wire up, immersing thus produced aluminum silicon carbide composite material-covered steel wire 4 into the molten aluminum or the aluminum alloy bath 2 again or treating the wire with an extrusion covering of aluminum or the aluminum alloy to enable the production of the wire having aluminum layer at an outermost layer. It is possible to construct an overhead earth wire by applying such aluminum silicon carbide composite material covered steel wire 4 as a part or a whole of the twisted wires.
