Title:
PRODUCTION OF AMINE OXIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3926428
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an amine oxide good in stability for a long period and useful as a surfactant such as a washing agent by oxidizing an amide amine with hydrogen peroxide and subsequently controlling the reaction solution to a specific pH range.
SOLUTION: This method for producing an amine oxide of formula II comprises reacting an amide amine of formula I [R1 is an alkyl, an alkenyl, a hydroxyalkyl; R2, R3 are each an alkyl, a hydroxyalky; (n) is 2-3] with hydrogen peroxide and subsequently adding an alkali to the reaction solution to give a pH of 9-13. The used alkali is especially preferably sodium hydroxide. The addition of a metal-sealing agent selected from 4-10C polybasic acids each having one or more OH groups or their salts, and aminopolycarboxylic acids each having at least two groups of the formula: CH2COOM (M is H, an alkali metal) bound to the N atom or their salts to the reaction product of the amide amine of formula I with the hydrogen peroxide enables to further suppress the decomposition of the amine oxide of the formula II.
