Abstract:

To provide a method for producing ammonia and sulfur dioxide, capable of profitably recovering the ammonia and the sulfur dioxide from ammonium sulfate in high efficiency.

This method for producing ammonia and sulfur dioxide comprises adding the oxide and/or hydroxide of an alkaline earth methyl to ammonium surface and/or ammonium bisulfate, heating the mixture to decompose the ammonium sulfate and/or the ammonium disulfate into ammonia and an alkaline earth metal sulfate, recoverding the ammonia, adding a reducing agent to the alkaline earth metal sulfate, pyrolyzing the mixture, recovering the produced sulfur dioxide, and recycling the produced alkaline earth metal oxide as an oxide to the process for decomposing the ammonium sulfate and/or the ammonium bisulfate.
