Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aqueous solution of high-purity maleate and to obtain a maleic acid-based copolymer by using the aqueous solution.
SOLUTION: This method for producing an aqueous solution of a maleate having ≤10,000 ppm formed malic acid amount comprises charging a reactor with ≤80% of a basic substance based on a required amount for producing an aqueous solution of a maleate and ≤80% maleic acid (salt) and/or maleic acid anhydride based on a required amount for producing the aqueous solution of a maleate and then feeding the residual water, basic substance and maleic acid (salt) and/or maleic acid anhydride to the reactor under conditions to make the highest temperature of the reaction temperature reach ≥80°C. A maleic acid/acrylic acid-based copolymer (salt) comprising 30-70 mol% maleic acid and 70-30 mol% acrylic acid and having 2,000-50,000 weight-average molecular weight is produced by using the aqueous solution.
