To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing the subject aromatic alkyl hydroperoxide in high yield by oxidation of the corresponding alkyl-substituted aromatic compound under control of the oxidation reaction through efficiently determining in a short time both the kind and concentration of the aimed hydroperoxide formed.
This method for producing the subject aromatic alkyl hydroperoxide comprises the oxidation of the corresponding alkyl-substituted aromatic compound with an oxygen-contg. gas; wherein a sample prepared by mixing an organic solvent with an oxidation reaction product is subjected to near-infrared spectroscopic analysis to afford an optical spectrum followed by analyzing the extinction coefficient(s) for absorption peak(s) selected from those lying within the wavelength range of 1,100 to 2,500 nm to calculate the concentration of each kind of aromatic alkyl hydroperoxide included in the oxidation reaction product, and based on the result the oxidation reaction is controlled.
