PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful as a raw material for agricultural chemicals, isocyanate, and polyurethane in high yield in good operation properties, by reacting an aromatic nitro compound with an aromatic hydroxy compound and carbon monoxide in the presence of a novel catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic nitro compound is reacted with an aromatic hydroxy compound and carbon monoxide in the presence of metallic palladium or a palladium compound as a main catalyst and a cocatalyst consisting of a specific compound combination of a halogenated phosphorus compound, an iron compound, a vanadium compound and a tertiary amine in a solvent such as benzene, etc. at 160W220°C at reaction pressure of 100W500kg/cm2G as partial pressure of carbon monoxide for 10minW10hr, to give the aimed substance.
EFFECT: Since a catalytic system of this invention has extremely low corrosive properties, an inexpensive material used ordinarily is usable for a reactor.
