Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyimide having excellent moldability, heat resistance and mechanical characteristics, by reacting p-phenylenediamine with a pyromellitic acid derivative, aromatic diamine and aromatic tetracarboxylic acid derivative in a given order and then heating the resultant product.

CONSTITUTION: p-Phenylenediamine is reacted with a pyromellitic acid derivative and then an aromatic diamine and aromatic tetracarboxylic acid derivative or the aromatic diamine is reacted with the aromatic tetracarboxylic acid derivative. Furthermore, the p-phenylenediamine and pyromellitic acid derivative are added so as to provide a substantially equimolar amount of the respective total numbers of mol. of the p-phenylenediamine and aromatic diamine with pyromellitic acid derivative and aromatic tetracarboxylic acid derivative and reacted to afford a polyamic acid or derivative thereof, which is then thermally reacted.
