PURPOSE: To obtain an artificial marble excellent in transparency, hot-water resistance, surface smoothness and strengths by hot-pressing a thermosetting resin composition comprising a specified resin, a specified filler and a specified thickener and having a specified viscosity.

CONSTITUTION: The artificial marble is obtained by hot-pressing a thermosetting resin composition comprising 100 pts.wt. unsaturated polyester resin comprising an unsaturated polyester (e.g. a polycondensate of isophthalic acid and maleic acid with propylene glycol) and a polymerizable monomer (e.g. styrene), 50-370 pts.wt. filler comprising 5-75wt.% glass powder of a mean particle diameter of 3-15μm and 95-25wt.% Al(OH)3 powder of a mean particle diameter of 3-15μm, and a thickener (e.g. MgO) and having a viscosity of 2000000ps or above at 40°C.
