PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful for medicines and electronic materials, while retaining optical purity of a raw material in a few processes and economically by subjecting an optically active acyl halide and an aryl compound to Friedel-Crafts reaction at a specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A compound of the formula R1(R2)*CHCOX (R1 and R2 are mutually different 1-6C alkyls; * C is an asymmetric carbon; X is a halogen) and (B) a compound of the formula 1-Y-Z (1 is phenyl; Y is a single bond, phenylene, cyclohexylene, pyrimidilene or dioxylene; Z is H, a halogen, carboxyl or CN) are subjected to Friedel-Crafts reaction in the presence of (C) a Lewis acid catalyst at ≤-5°C, especially -10 to 15°C to give the objective compound of the formula R1(R2)*CHCO-2-Y-Z (2 is phenylene).
