PURPOSE: To obtain the subject carpet small in the restoration after forming, good in installation nature by coating a latex and/or emulsion on the back surface of a web produced by needling following randomly stacking raw wool on a mobile wire net and furthermore by coating a molten backing resin thereon.

CONSTITUTION: Firstly, a random web is produced by subjecting a mixture of (1) 70wt.% of polypropylene wool and (2) 30wt.% of polyester wool to a carding machine to make fleece, which is then carried and stacked on a mobile wire net through an air stream from an air nozzle. The web is then put to needle punching to mutually interlace the fibers, and if needed, furthermore, the web surface is put to needling in a raised manner. Thence, the back surface is coated with a SBR latex or an acrylic or vinyl emulsion followed by applying resin powder such as of low-density polyethylene after or before drying. The system is then subjected to pressing with a hot roll to coat the back surface with the molten resin, thus obtaining the objective automotive needle carpet.
