PURPOSE: To produce an aziridine compound from an alkanolamine in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The subject production process is composed of (1) a reaction step to produce an aziridine compound by the vapor-phase catalytic intramolecular dehydration reaction of an alkanolamine, (2) a collection step to collect the aziridine compound with the alkanolamine, (3) a purification step to distill the collected aziridine compound liquid to separate the aziridine compound and (4) a recovery step to introduce the bottom product obtained from the purification step into a recovery column, hydrolyze the bottom product in the presence of 8-40wt.% of water (based on the bottom product) to decompose the by-produced Schiff base or ketimine in the bottom product and recover the obtained alkanolamine. The yield of the alkanolamine used as a raw material can be improved by returning and reusing the recovered alkanolamine to the reaction step and/or the collection step.
